Summer is a time we have more opportunity to get outside and play. Remember summer as a kid? Biking, roller-blading, falling, etc. As kids we were resilient, meaning we could "take a lickin' and keep on tickin." Watching a toddler fall while learning to walk, think about the effect it would have on your body now...Yikes!
I ask people about traumas/injuries in my initial evaluation, and usually unless they have been in recent accidents or have had sports injuries, they think this does not apply to them. Because we were able to get up and shake things off as kids, we often don't think any of these mini-traumas affected us. I consider all the times I fell on my head and rear-end in gymnastics, flipped off swing-sets and took falls just being a rambunctious kid. I wonder if my parents had known to take me in for little spinal tune-ups, just like they did check-ups for my teeth, would I have all the neck and back problems, including scoliosis, that I deal with today?
Childhood is the time our bodies are developing alignment and often compensation patterns. Many times kids won't necessarily complain of pain because their bodies are efficient at clearing inflammation. Most pain comes from inflammation.
Some signs kids may be out of alignment:
- Sinus/Ear/Throat Infections
- Irritability and/or Trouble Sleeping
- Trouble Focusing & Hyperactivity
- Allergies
